Did you know...

Cat A speed limits:

  • Initial approach: 90-150kts
  • Final approach: 70-100kts
  • Circling: max 100kts
  • Intermediate MAP: 100kts
  • Final MAP: 110kts
  • Reversals and racetracks: 110kts
Intermediate MAP is the straight section
of climb on a missed approach. As soon as
you turn you're on final missed approach.

Racetracks are simply course reversals
in the initial part of an approach. The
other reversals are base turns and
procedure turns.

You can fly faster the the speeds shown
but you have to respect the maximum
speed for the fastest category for
which a procedure is permitted. This
data is not shown on gCAP plates so you
must respect the speeds shown unless you
know that a particular approach can
be flown by faster category aircraft.
